What Is Korean Saju?
Saju (사주) is the Korean tradition of reading a birth chart built from four pillars: year, month, day and hour. Each pillar contains two characters, creating the “eight characters” often called sajupalja (사주팔자).
The four pillars
A Saju chart organizes a birth moment into four pairs. The Year Pillar represents the birth year in the traditional calendar system. The Month Pillar follows seasonal solar terms rather than simply the first day of a Western calendar month. The Day Pillar contains the Day Master—the central reference point used to interpret the rest of the chart. The Hour Pillar adds another layer based on the birth time.
Each pillar contains a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch. Four pillars multiplied by two characters gives eight characters in total.
What is the Day Master?
The Heavenly Stem of the Day Pillar is called the Day Master (일간). In a traditional reading, the Day Master represents the person whose chart is being read. The other characters are interpreted by how they relate to it.
There are ten possible Heavenly Stems: two expressions—yin and yang—of each of the Five Elements. That means a Day Master can be Yang Wood, Yin Wood, Yang Fire, Yin Fire, and so on through Earth, Metal and Water.
The Five Elements
Saju uses five elemental categories: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. They are not literal substances and they are not a simple score where “more is always better.” They are traditional categories used to describe relationships and balance inside the chart.
K-Destiny shows the calculated element distribution in the free preview so you can see the chart structure before reading any interpretation.
What are the Ten Gods?
The “Ten Gods” are traditional relationship roles created by comparing each stem with the Day Master. Despite the dramatic English name, they are not supernatural beings. They are categories traditionally associated with themes such as self, expression, resources, authority and wealth.
Is Saju the same as BaZi?
Saju and Chinese BaZi share the Four Pillars framework, Heavenly Stems, Earthly Branches and Five Elements. “Saju” is the Korean name and Korean reading tradition around that shared East Asian system. Different schools may use different conventions or emphasize different techniques.
Is Saju the same as Western astrology?
No. Western astrology commonly uses planets, zodiac signs and houses. Saju uses a different calendar framework built from stems, branches, elements and their relationships. A Saju chart is not based only on your birth month or sun sign.
What if I don't know my birth time?
You can still calculate much of the chart from the year, month and day, but the Hour Pillar will be uncertain or unavailable. K-Destiny lets you mark the birth time as unknown rather than pretending a precise hour is known.
Does Saju predict the future?
K-Destiny does not present Saju as scientifically established prediction. Traditional readers may discuss timing cycles and symbolic themes, but those ideas should be treated as cultural interpretation and reflection—not guaranteed events or professional advice.
How K-Destiny works
K-Destiny separates calculation from interpretation. Deterministic code calculates the chart first. A separate AI language layer then explains the already-calculated chart in modern English and is not allowed to change the Four Pillars.
